EUROPEAN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND PROJECTS

 
European Regional Development Fund was established in 1975. The subsidies granted from the Fund are coordinated by the European Commission's Directorate General for Regional Policy. 

The overall objective of the European Regional Development Fund is to support the development of economic activities and infrastructure on regional level. Among other things, the development of the infrastructure of regional airports and the improvement of environmental protection, air safety and security measures for ensuring safe aviation are also supported from the Fund.

Programme period 2004-2006


During the programme period of 2004-2006 the European Regional Development Fund financed the following projects in the field of aviation (in the total amount of 77 929 973 Estonian kroons):

Kärdla airport

Ensuring aviation safety in Kärdla airport
- Construction of perimeter fence
- Purchase of distance measuring equipment (DME)
- Renovation of precision approach radar (PAR TESLA)
- Purchase of split-friction tester
- Purchase of fire-engine and rescue vehicle
- Purchase of very high frequency gateways (VHF)
- Purchase, mounting and installation of meteorological equipment

Modernising the infrastructure of Kärdla airport
- Design and reconstruction of platform
- Purchase of fuel tanker vehicle

Pärnu airport

Ensuring aviation safety in Pärnu airport
- Purchase of safety equipment

Tartu airport

Ensuring aviation safety in Tartu airport
- Construction of perimeter fence, including necessary reclamation works
- Purchase, mounting and installation of meteorological equipment
- Purchase of split-friction tester
- Purchase of safety equipment
- Purchase of radio direction finder
- Purchase of rescue equipment
- Purchase and installation of NDB and markers
- Purchase of land in order to ensure secure areas

Modernising the infrastructure of Tartu airport
- Design and reconstruction of control tower, including purchase and installation of functional equipment necessary for tower’s operation
- Reparation of taxiway, platform and waiting areas for aircrafts
- Reparation of parking lot and waiting areas for cars
- Purchase and installation of aircrafts’ ground processing unit (GPU)
- Expansion of air traffic area
- Design of passenger terminal reconstruction

Kuressaare airport

Ensuring aviation safety in Kuressaare airport
- Purchase of safety equipment
- Purchase of fire-engine and fire fighting equipment

Modernising the infrastructure of Kuressaare airport
- Design and construction of expansion of passenger terminal, including purchase of functional equipment
- Design and construction of maintenance and rescue service garage
- Performing construction supervision
- Purchase and installation of aircrafts’ ground processing unit (GPU)

Developing the infrastructure of Kuressaare airport
- Preparation of detailed plan and environmental impact assessment
- Preparation of geodetic source plan
- Designation of PCN
- Design of runway extension
- Construction supervision and equipment installation
- Purchase, mounting and installation of equipment (de-icing equipment, rescue equipment, tower equipment, split-friction tester, luggage carrier) and training
- Purchase of AFL emergency generator
- Outsourcing consultation services

Programme period 2007-2013


Pursuant to Regulation No. 307 of the government of July 10th 2008 (amending Regulation No.126 of the Government of the Republic of Estonia of March 6th 2008 “Approving the investment plan for developing the transport infrastructure”) in the field of aviation the joint project of developing the airports of Kärdla, Kuressaare, Ruhnu and Tartu shall be subsidised in the total amount of 274 million Estonian kroons from the European Regional Development Fund during the programme period 2007-2013.
